When I went to Medellin, I was very worried about where I was going to live, I didn't know if the apartments I found were good options or what was the best option for me. So I really know that looking for accommodations in an unknown country can be scary and complicated, because of that in this post I will talk about the different options you have to find accommodation in Medellin.
The first platform I will talk about is Erasmus, on this page, the landlords publish complete apartments, student houses or private rooms inside their homes. Rental prices may vary, depending on the amenities you are looking for. There are rooms inside a house that you can find from 250 USD and entire departments from 450 USD.
Another option may be to search for apartments through Airbnb, many landlords have the option to rent for long periods of time and some miners longer the stay, certain discounts apply to you. In Airbnb, you can find entire apartments from 414 USD/month. Another option is the houses for students when I went to exchange in Colombia, I stayed in one of these.
They are great alternatives since you can have roommates who are international students and you will always have company. They are also a great option because by living with them you create great friendships and learn things from different cultures.
In student houses, each one usually has individual rooms and share common areas. But there is also the option of having a shared room, these are more energetic than the individual ones. I stayed in a single and paid 350 USD monthly, but I had roommates who shared a room and paid 300 USD.
My last advice is that before deciding on where to rent consider your options, I have friends who decided to tempt alone and then discovered that this was not what they were really looking for or vice versa. Consider all the pros and cons of the departments, since that will be your home for the next 6 months or a year.
