If you are looking to study abroad, to do an exchange or Spanish language program, Colombia offers you a wide range of excellent academic institutions to do so. But, we know that all the excitement that comes with experiencing something new also comes with the concern about all the paperwork you have to deal with.
But do not worry, we have you covered on that. Here is our 3 step guide to help you on how to get a student visa for studying in Colombia.
1. Set an appointment at the Colombian Embassy’s website
Let’s start by checking the Colombian Embassy’s website from your home country and answer a questionnaire. Then, you will need to request an appointment at the embassy. Easy, right? You’ll finish sooner than you think.
2. Bring the required documents to the appointment
The expected day has arrived. Do not leave things at the last minute! On the day of your appointment, you must bring your original passport and two photocopies of the passport (This must be valid for more than three months after your expected return date).
You will also need three passport-sized photos with a white background. Be careful with the measurements! We don’t want your photos to be rejected.
At the embassy, they can ask you some financial statements (to check for financial stability), and proof of scholarships in case you have obtained any from your home country.
3. Acceptation letter from the host university
To be able to apply for a student visa, you must have been already accepted to a Colombian university and take a minimum of 10 hours of class per week. The visa will be only valid during your study time in Colombia.
Now you are ready to come. The process to obtain a visa in Colombia is very simple. You just must follow all the steps they ask for and be timely with application deadlines.
Some last tips to make everything go perfect. We recommend that the day of your appointment to be very punctual and arrive about 15 minutes before. At that time, make sure you have brought all the documents. Also, leave your nerves aside, breathe and relax, with the proper preparation everything will work out in your favor.
