Keep in mind the following:
Safety is a matter of prevention; avoid lonely places, go out in groups and use taxis or in driver (an app that offer this service) in case you live far away.
Cultural differences may arrive, so prepare yourself for unfamiliar situations and try to invite some friends in order to keep you calm.
Getting involve in another culture is an adventure, therefore enjoy as much as you can!
There are many places that may tailor to your preferences and if you don't like parties but quite places, then we recommend you to explore in other sides.
Parque Poblado is a nice place to start. There are a few bars near the park were you can meet up with friends and meet new people.
1. El poblado
Latin people tend to go out in big groups of friends and dance with each other, so if it's your first time in Medellin, we recommend you to start hanging out in Poblado. There you'll find the Zona Rosa which is full of tourists, discos and bars, even cafes and restaurants. Prices are varied and it is a pretty safe area. However, we always recommend you to be careful with your belongings and prepare your way home to avoid unnecessary risks that could ruin your night.
You can use the Parque Lleras as a reference point because you'll discover places to party around it. If you go up 10th street you will reach the Sector Provenza where you will find a restaurant area and if you go down you will find the Parque El Poblado, popularly known as "el PP".
2. La 33

For those who want a more Colombian and typical experience of the city, 33rd Street is the ideal option. There are many clubs in this loooong street; therefore, instead of walking around, we recommend you to pick up a club and go directly by taxi.
From the southern highway to the roundabout on 80th you will discover many areas with very Colombian discotheques. There is a wider variety regarding prices and music, you will find rock bars, discos with specific music genres, crossover style, etc. The budget for a party here is much more affordable than in the area mentioned above.
3. La 70

Another sector with a strong Colombian environment is the 70th (which is in the process of being renamed "Libertadores de América"). This is a short street between the Stadium and La Universidad Pontifica where you'll find small bars perfect for drinking a beer in the afternoon and fonda-style discos for spending a fun night out with friends. Also, football fans love going there to celebrate their victory or drown their sorrow with a pola –Cold beer.
In the circular streets that cross the 70 you can find restaurants for all tastes, and in the same street there are food stands that can be a good option as well. The budget can be flexible since cost is affordable. Walking and choosing a place to stay will be very comfortable within this street because of the infrastructure.
Moreover, if you want to move your hips and learn salsa you must go to:
Son Havana
El Tibiri
4. Barrio Colombia

Barrio Colombia is a well-known sector specially dedicated to nightlife. It’s located near the Industrial subway station and you will enjoy from several of the most exclusive nightclubs in Medellín. These are quite big as there is much more space than in some of the Lleras nightclubs. It can be much more expensive and the location is a bit further away, but it is a good option for those looking for different experiences in large nightclubs. You will also find bars and some restaurants.
5. Las palmas

If you're looking for a slightly more remote and exclusive option, even with a little cooler climate, but still within the city, you shouldn't go too far, Las Palmas is the right place for you. This is a hill located near the metro station “Expositiones”; it is known mostly for its viewpoints located on the road to the airport, it has several inns and restaurants with a good view of the city and a pretty warmer climate, especially at night. The options to get here would be by car, Uber, In driver or Taxi. If you choose to party in Las Palmas, you must be willing to spend a little more than in the places mentioned previously.
Now you have no excuse to stay at home, find the plan that best fits your needs and enjoy the experience!
