5 things to do for free after quarantine in Medellin

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

One of the thoughts that has come to the minds of all of us who are in isolation, who are missing our families and who are self-conscious of the current situation, is probably: "What am I going to do after the quarantine?".

Fortunely or not, this isolation period has make us reflect on all those ocassions where "we could have done something", either going out to the park with you family or enjoy a delicious ice-cream with your friends in the spring season.

But, I am here to remind you that all those "I would or I could" can turn into "I will or I can" and even though going out is restricted, imagination isn't. So that's why I bring you 5 plans that will help you create more unforgettable memories with your loved ones and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

1. Visit and watch movies at the Parque de los Deseos

How about watching movies outdoors, surrounded by a bit of nature and completely free, sounds good, right?

Well, every weekend at 7:00 pm, you can enjoy with your family and friends different genres of movies at the Parque de los Deseos. It is a pretty popular activity in the city, but if that’s not enough to convince you, you can also visit the Astronomy Museum, where you can be delighted by the wonders of the universe and play among the stars with the interactive activities the museum offers.

2. Hiking in the Parque Arví

However, if you are the type of person who prefers doing a bit of exercise by admiring the nature, then you can prepare your backpack with snacks and water to enjoy a bit of hiking in the marvelous nature reserve: Parque Arví.

It’s a public park with 16.000 hectares of bright-green forest and colorful plants, where you can feel as one with the nature and do some activities such as: bird sightseeing, night-hiking, camping, horse-riding, among others.

3. Picnic activity in Jardin Botanico of Medellín

Sunday mornings and picnics are a great match when you want to do a chill activity in the weekend. That’s why I recommend you 100% to do a picnic in the lovely Jardin Botanico of Medellin, it is such a quiet yet visually charming and instagram-worthy place where you can spend a good and peaceful day with your loved ones.

ps. Don’t forget to bring your own garbage bag and clean the place, remember that many people like us deserve to have a clean space to enjoy their picnic day.

4. No-plan activity at Ciudad del Rio

You probably have heard the expression that says: “The best plans are those who are not planned”. Well, that’s exactly what Ciudad del Rio stands for, you don’t need a specific plan to enjoy the beauty of this park.

The outstanding scenario can be the perfect place to just go for a walk, ride your bike, read a book or eat ice-cream with your friends. Also, there are several restaurants and cute cafes to spend the day.

5. Carabobo pedestrian walk tour

I know, you may be wondering why am I recommending to spend your time doing this. BUT, the thing is that this is NOT an ordinary walk-tour, because Carabobo is a pretty important place in the history of city and its urban development.

It is a beautiful 8 block pedestrian area with all kinds of shops and local restaurants, you won’t feel the noise of the cars and stress of traffic and that makes it the perfect place to just walk around, with no rush to enjoy the moment.

During this hard period that we are going through, I really hope that reading this blog made you feel like you still have time to enjoy with the people you love the most and create amazing memories with them. Please, stay safe.
